A Familiar Face

November 20th, 2010

Most of you local folk will know this car well, having campaigned regularly in D1NZ for many years. But some of you may not know that Jason has been busy over the off-season and now, the car has a few more tricks up its sleeve.

The Wonder bodykit is showing a few years of abuse, but that’s exactly what this car is built for.

With the car now packing a fair bit more grunt than before, Jason went about having an aluminium drag-style wing made for the rear to keep things a little more stable.

Custom wider front guards allow for the extra turning lock and a vented carbon fibre bonnet replaces the heavy metal stock items that seem to always fall on your head in these Laurel’s.

This is where Jason has made the biggest change from last season, 2JZGTE no shit.

The combination of a Sinco Customs intake manifold, 90mm throttle body and…

….this huge Trust T78 turbo add up to an insane 430kw.

Hand-crafted steel rear guards allow Jason to run almost zero camber and 255’s on the rear to give him as much grip as possible. They look very subtle but are actually about 40mm wider than stock.

The cockpit is kept pretty simple with a 6 point cage, RJS harnesses and a pair of Sparco seats. Along with this nifty little control panel.

In order to put 430kw out to the rear wheels reliably, Jason invested in a Richmond 6-speed gearbox and a custom driveshaft.

The exhaust now runs down the driver’s side of the gearbox and exits through the bottom of the back door. Makes for cool looking backfires too!

To keep the cabin free of any nasty exhaust fumes, Jason’s Dad made up a sealed box which sits snugly where the back seat used to be in this once-luxurious four door sedan. The boot houses an 8 gallon fuel cell as well as pair of Bosch 044 fuel pumps.

And finally an array of adjustable arms and Tein Super Drift coilovers keep the Laurel functional at a much lower height than Nissan ever imagined.

All the best for the season Jase, see you at Round 2!
